Dear Host Families & Students,
Kia ora from the Homestay Plus Community!
As we move through May and June, the colder months are well and truly here. Winter can be a tough time for students—especially those not used to New Zealand’s chilly homes—so we’d like to remind everyone how important it is to keep your home warm, dry, and welcoming.
Looking After Student Health
If your student is feeling unwell, please let their school know promptly and support them just as you would your own child. If they ask to visit a clinic or GP, please help them book and attend the appointment. Caring for their health and wellbeing is a key part of your role as a host parent—and it makes all the difference during these colder months.
A Warm, Safe Home Matters
Please check that your student’s bedroom is warm enough overnight, and if possible, allow fresh air in during the day to keep the room healthy. Many students are away from home for the first time, so your care, patience, and kindness are incredibly valuable.
Thank You
We want to sincerely thank you for everything you do. Your support and commitment help our students thrive in Aotearoa, especially during winter.
Warm regards,
The Homestay Plus Team
